A Focus on Student-Parents
Public post-secondary education for students with dependent children is a growing need in our community. The journey to and through college is challenging for many students, but it is even more challenging for student parents as they juggle academic demands while also raising children. Oxnard College recognizes that Student parents face greater economic barriers than students without children.
Student Parents, you are now eligible for Priority Registration!
Oxnard College can now grant priority registration to Student Parents. Eligible student parents will be able to register for classes on the first day of priority registration for the upcoming terms.
What is a student parent?
A student parent is defined as a student who has a child under 18 years of age who will receive more than half of their support from the student. To be eligible, students must participate in orientation, complete the assessment process, and develop a Student Education Plan.
What is the benefit of priority registration?
Priority registration increases the number of available courses by allowing students to register early for their desired schedule.
How do I apply if I am a student parent?
Just submit our Priority Registration for Students Parents request form. These get submitted to Admissions and Records Office so your priority registration can be processed. If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions and Records Office at ocadmissions@vcccd.edu or at 805-678-5810.
AB 2881
The student parent population deserves particular focus and support. AB 2881 provides a multifaceted approach to support student parents at the community colleges, California State University, and University of California by granting priority registration to student parents, as well as listing available resources. We have established this student parent webpage to highlight available services and resources, and to increase awareness of the California Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children. We are dedicated to the academic success and degree attainment for student parents, while focusing on their needs and the needs of their children.
