About Program
At Oxnard College, we prepare students for their future as a public school Elementary Teacher with our AA transfer degree. Students learn the theoretical and practical foundations of teaching and learning using standards-based education to further community improvement and promote social justice.
To complete the AA-T Elementary Teacher Education degree, students take courses in a variety of subjects, including classes offered directly by the Education department. This degree puts students on a path to success in completing their four-year degree and California multiple subject teaching credential.
All Oxnard College students interested in teaching any subject or grade level are encouraged to join the OC Future Teachers student club. Students may sign up here.
Students may complete their required classroom observation hours in an assigned California public elementary school. Since these are public elementary schools, they may have their own specific requirements, including, but not limited to, the following:
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- COVID-19 vaccination
- TB screening
- Drug testing/screening
- Live Scan
- Criminal Background Check
Please note: these requirements may not be required to enroll in courses in the Ventura County Community College District.
