Welcome to the MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement Program)
Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) is developing a new generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) within the Oxnard College community. Our program fuels diversity by propelling minoritized students toward STEM degrees and professional careers.
MESA provides a wide range of support services and activities for STEM students from minoritized backgrounds to help them excel academically and transfer to four-year institutions in calculus-based majors*. Through MESA, students develop academic and leadership skills, increase educational performance, and gain confidence in their abilities to compete academically and professionally. MESA aims to enrich the student's college experience by providing a variety of services to equip MESA students with the skills and attitudes necessary for their successful transfer to a university.
Mission
To provide educationally and financially disadvantaged students with the essential skills and resources to achieve success in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related disciplines while partnering with educational institutions and relevant professionals. For almost 30 years, MESA has implemented equity-based practices to support first-generation, low-income students, particularly students of color, in the STEM transfer pipeline, serving as a model of the California Community College Guided Pathways since the 1990’s.
The program aims to:
- Increase college retention and transfer rate to four-year institutions
- Provide enrichment in mathematics- and science-based courses
- Establish a mentoring program involving faculty, upper-division students, and science/health professionals
- Increase the number of underrepresented students who graduate with degrees in math, science and engineering
- Assist in the application and transfer to four-year institutions
Location:
- The MESA Center is temporarily located in the second floor of the Oxnard College Library
- Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm
