The McNish Gallery of Art is proud to present, Event Horizon II, a group exhibition curated by Mela M. featuring paintings and sculpture by L.A. artists: Dawn Arrowsmith, Joe Davidson, Veda B. Kaya, Barbara Kerwin, Mela M, Michael McCall, and Jill Sykes.
An opening reception will take place on Thursday, February 6 from 5pm - 7pm, with an artist talk at 5:30pm. For more information, contact cmorla@vcccd.edu.

About the exhibit:
As metaphor, the Event Horizon takes place where the known meets the unknown, where the seven artists in this exhibit explore the liminal spaces between reality and dreams. From this emergent space of endless possibilities the artists have been challenged, inspired and released to approach light, color, form and shape in diverse ways for the purpose of creating transformative work. When the familiar is left behind and fades away, the genesis of new artistic narratives results in work that aspires to defy the traditional and ordinary. The dynamic boundary at the Event Horizon separates the linear focus of the conscious from the hidden, but robust dreamscapes of the unconscious. If our awareness is a light and the unconscious is a powerful gravitational force, at the Event Horizon this light is pulled into the unconscious realm where creative imagination and unlimited potentiality co-exist. The Event Horizon is an astrophysical concept used to indicate that critical point in time where forces are so powerful that light itself can be extinguished. As artists, we must make sure the light is not lost but is used to illuminate new bold and daring artistic visions that offer reflective interpretations of our past, present trends and the future to come.
