Congratulations to Jullianne De La Cruz, who recently received the Bonita C. McFarland Scholarship from the Museum of Ventura County. This scholarship was presented to new or continuing college students who are pursuing art in Ventura County.
Jullianne, who attends Oxnard, Moorpark and Ventura Colleges, is a talented and passionate art student who constantly challenges herself to go above and beyond in all her coursework and approaches projects with creativity. Maximizing opportunities and making the absolute most of her projects are mantras that she carries with her through her classes. A few of her recent pieces include: “Masterpiece Project: The Game,” an educational pixel-styled computer game featuring Dr. Mack, Professor Morla, and other familiar OC faces; a storyboard animation, a short pixel animation, a 3D modeled story-driven environment, and an entire arcade game (OC President’s Choice Award). She also created “Yobby the Betta Fish,” an extra-large pop-up book that has been shown in local galleries and won many awards, including “The President’s Choice Award” and “First Place in Sculpture” at the OC McNish Gallery of Art.
In addition to the Bonita C. McFarland Scholarship, Jullianne has received numerous awards for her artistic achievement, including the OC Visual & Performing Arts Department for Outstanding Achievement in Art, Barbara Fontes Memorial Scholarship and first-place awards in drawing, digital media and sculpture, among others.
Julianne hopes to leave Oxnard College showing people that you can be successful if you just push yourself to reach higher. “I’m hoping that some people will look at my work and feel inspired to do something crazy too. I’d like to be a role model for fellow aspiring artists because it’s true that pursuing art is a risky dream, but it’s totally possible. No excuses, only grit!”
Way to go, Jullianne! We are proud of you and confident you have a bright future in the arts!
